Doug Beaumier is a well known and experienced teacher of guitar and steel guitar for over 30 years. Doug teaches guitar, lap steel guitar, pedal steel guitar, and ukulele. He teaches all levels, beginner to advanced, and all ages from the very young to much more seasoned. Beginning students learn chords, strumming, note reading, tablature, basic theory and song structure. Intermediate and advanced students study scales, bar chords, improvisation, scales over chords, finger picking, syncopation, theory, and more.
Doug says “I want the students to enjoy their lessons. The goal is to play music, to play songs together… not just to open a book and play what’s on the page. Note reading is important, of course, but the ultimate goal is to create music that comes from within you. I’m always thrilled when I see a student reach a new level of understanding and ability.”
He has played thousands of shows with country and oldies bands over the past 40 years and taught hundreds of students here at Downtown Sounds for the past 30+ years. Doug also taught guitar lessons at the Williston-Northampton School for 10 years.
In addition to teaching and performing throughout New England, Doug is also an internationally known steel guitarist with a long history of writing, instructing, and performing on the steel guitar. He has played countless number of shows with country and oldies past for over 40 years and still loves to play out with other musicians. He has written over 50 instructional columns for Steel Guitarist Magazine and Steel Guitar World Magazine. And he has sold thousands of self-published books and CDs for steel guitar all over the world for many years and continues to do so.
